Every standby generator needs a stable, level, elevated surface to sit on — the pad keeps the unit off bare ground, reduces vibration transfer, and helps with drainage and pest access underneath.
Pads are typically either a pre-formed composite/polymer base or a poured concrete slab. Composite pads are faster to install and adequate for most residential units; poured concrete is more common for larger units or where local code specifies it.
Setback distance from windows, doors, and property lines is typically dictated by local code and the generator manufacturer, not by preference — this affects where the pad can legally go.
